What do you like:
Inessa: Food
Flip flopping of techers and students - not one sided
Open to contributors
Complex and appropriate model
Learned: Do not use hot blender
Fra: Atmosphere;
free, accessible, open source
open Education, outside of uni
platform for documenting workshops
Learned: most important to introduce basic tools/introduction
tailored on needs of students
Ebony:
reciprocal nature of Open learning idea,
level of creativity of group
diversity of interest
network tracking (of interest etc)
Energy of the people
Martha:
"teaching is the new learning"
cannot learn everything you need to knoq from institutions
world is turned upside down and knowledge is up for grabs
mirage that professors and higher ups are people in charge
its all up for grabs
doing it for yourselves is the only way forward
not just for cooking, not just a hobby - an important programme
students in middle ages organized professors to teach
teachers and learners were same people and should still be
mayne people are working along these lines
don't have time to take a course somewhere all the time
Philo:
learning is so fun and its great learning together
not just about getting skill or knowledge across, have been moments of getting
together, having fun, doing something meaningful
its about making new connections and friends
a platform or community that facillitates social interaction in an easy going way
fun fosters learning
practicality of workshops is helpful
practical skill building (cognitive computing- latex)
powerful way of learning
leanred: communication is very important and responding to the needs of students is power, constant interaction
like that workshops are skill based, digital courses, crafty - cooking , still want to learn a backflip, horse riding
Ebony: Analog vs Digital
bringing pieces together for a feast of learning & sharing
Martha: existing cooking networks lack the notion
learning beyond trading
"Of course design thinking is something you do over a lifetime, but you have to start somewhere"
Fra: Bruno Munari: how to learn to design: focus on practicality
Philo: How to improve?
Inessa: increase diversity
Martha: scheduled time
Philo: scheduled availability
Philo: two ways to continue with Picnic - 1 is the headquarter approach, Goldsmith's for example, or the Hub (Westminster), or c4cc; this approach is used by TradeSchool 2 is the facilitation approach, we just organize the interaction of people, this approach is used by CouchSurfing
Philo: Thinks the 2nd approach is more revolutionary
Inessa: The 2 approaches are not necessarily either/or; could be combined
Francesca: Either way or both - platform needs initiative to be taken
Ebony: is there still a core group of users very active?
Philo and Inessa: yes, but only a small group
Martha: I was running a group called skttr that failed due to the disappearance of some of the too-few links in the system [note: though terrific while it lasted!]
Inessa: Philo is the moving power of this group at the moment, but it needs to be more horizontal, more team structure
Philo: we now need to eat
Inessa: an apple? green or red? how are your tomatoes, Philo...
Martha: invented 2 recipes for my birthday: tiny apples sauce (apple butter!), and linguini 'straw and hay' with shallots & vegetables
Several: teach that!
Inessa: explains what is currently part of the board diagram
Philo: me and Svenje...trying to diagram the group: Svenje wanted to put the 'important' people on the outside of concentric circles, not on the inside; less engaged people on the inside (using the tree trunk concentric rings analogy); if people have different roles, then people on outside have supporting roles, people inside are less involved, the watery bit; this inside to outside structure is graduated
2 Roles mapping
Philo: tech + system design
Ebony: mid-way,
pathfinding
continuity of topics (over time), classifying topics, longer running workshops.
connecting to other projects, financial sustainability, class structure
Inessa: outside + inside
love to participate a lot, but working
would like to stay flexible
promoting to participants, connect to other projects/initiatives
Fra: outside
interested in teaching and learning
interested in organising (has time to spend)
how to develop a network: online part (tech + physical to digital content)
Martha:
is always learning, most older people are more stagnant
not a lot of time to spend, but wish to participate, participate a lot, dip in and out of organising role
incremental knowledge exchange in bite sized packages
organising picnic as a learning experience
in picnic researching formats to capturing and keep knowledge over time
linking digital & physical; how to engage the two in an open community, rights of data
Tarik:
outreach to new participants & like-minded initiatives
3 Action Groups Presentations
Inside Group
website should be platform for workshops, plus link to group
about page:
who is involved? show faces! profiles
people are the main resource, so should be reflected
making content
past page:
documentation about what has happened
workshop 'planned' & upcomming
profile pages
Outside group
what do we need from the outside?
more people

events, exchange
what is the scope of location?
London
Organisations related?
Goldsmiths
(Meetup.com)
C4CC
minibar, digital shoreditch
Couch Surfing
Focal Local
the Hub

-> Relate to organisations by focussing on how we complement and help each other
we are small and nice; lots of room for involvement
What do we need from outside?
facilities; space, equipment,
likeminded pepole (participators)
promotion; give outreach
Plan
1. have an offer: what are our workshops / skills

4. Hosting Picnics at local places
5. Real partnership
